Investors in wait-and-see mode after a choppy first half, and more insights in the latest installment of PERE's half-year report.

PERE’s H1 2022 Investor Report is available for download, presenting granular detail on how investors are operating in the market.

The 15 largest commitments to the asset class during the first half of the year totaled over $3.3 billion. Investors committing sizeable tickets were focused on industrial vehicles, with a third of the commitments to dedicated funds focused on the hot property type.

Investors are waiting to see what happens in the market, with over half maintaining current allocations to private real estate. PERE added in sovereign wealth fund data this year, with those types of investors being the keenest on the asset class. Over 40 percent of SWFs increased their allocations to real estate in the first half.

Public pensions are historically above-average allocators to the asset class and were allocating on average 9.49 percent of their portfolios to private real estate as of the end of June. This is a slight drop in average from last year, but they remain the front-runners.
